About Jérôme

My name’s Jérôme, I’m Swiss and I speak French. I was born in 1983 in Switzerland and I have been living there since. It’s a nice, clean and calm country. Although it has a lot of flaws, I like it. But I’m not a nationalist. And for those who have never been to Switzerland, we don’t live in « chalets » in the mountains, wear a Rolex or eat chocolate and cheese all the time. Some do, some don’t. I live in an old apartment, wear a Swatch, eat chocolate with a coffee – actually a Nespresso – what else?

I studied English, German and Cinema at the university of Lausanne between 2002 and 2008. I lived in Scotland and Germany briefly, between 2006 and 2007, where I learnt the languages and discovered different cultures. I grasped the most of it. I enjoyed beers and Würste in Germany, I loved whisky and haggis in Scotland. But not only that, of course.

I’m interested in the arts in general, specifically in cinema, music and literature. I play tennis and I’m a huge fan of Roger Federer (who isn’t by the way?). I’m not into politics, however I believe in it. I enjoy traveling and, of course, writing.

I hate violence, bullying and assaulting. I’m against the idea of an army but I reckon it’s necessary to have one.

I’m a philanthropist and I believe in humankind’s capacity to overcome difficulty, solve problems and deal with adversity. I’m thus not religious, though I think there may be a deity somewhere. I strongly believe in hedonism but I agree the everyday life doesn’t show propensity to happiness. The only two things I worship are friendship and sincerity. That’s more than enough to deal with for a whole life.

I also believe in environmental conservation, independence and simplicity.

I live in Lausanne and I’m presently teaching English and German in a Swiss public school. I earn good wages – another true myth about living in Switzerland – but I will never be rich enough to own a manor at the side of lake Geneva. I live happily though.

Hope you could get to the end in one go, and if questions pop up, feel free to ask!
Jérôme
